Best of Friends

Nothing is better than spending time with great friends. Last Friday, one of our dear couple friends got engaged. YAY!!! Congrats Kingsley and Paulie!!! Not only did he plan a romantic proposal but he also planned a surprise get-together with Kingsley's close friends. We offered to host the party at our house- Will was excited to host their first "Engagement Party."

Our Mobile friends, Rainer and Dan & Kara and Jonathan made the trip and arrived around Noon so Will and I, along with Whitney, had lunch at Tip Top Grill. Tip Top is an old gas station turned restaurant that sits on top of Bluff Park. It has the classics...hamburgers, hotdogs (Will recommends the special dog), BLTs, and crinkle fries. It's cheap and delicious- not to mention the view is great. There is only outside seating so on a day with great weather like last Saturday, it's best to have one part of your party reserve your table overlooking Ross Bridge while the other is in line ordering your special dog and fries.

After stuffing our faces for lunch, we went back to our house to prepare for the surprise. The girls sat outside soaking in the sun while the boys watched that day's sporting event- which happend to be the Auburn vs. Alabama basketball game. It's funny when we all get together as a group with our husbands, boyfriends, etc. I don't know if it's because we were sorority sisters in college but we always separate boys/girls. The boys will be in a huddle discussing I don't know "boy stuff" while us girls sit around talking about a little bit of everything. The topic of conversation has changed slightly as we've gotten older- it has turned to houses, mortgages, babies as opposed to boys we like, girls we hate, and nights on the town.

Once Kingsley and Paulie arrived we got to hear the proposal in full detail, see the amazing ring, and talk about Costa Rica 2011 for their wedding destination. Also, Emily and Ragean made it from Atlanta so the group (as in boys separate, girls separate) continued to grow...throw in some of Paulie's friends and we were hosting a pretty successful "Engagement Party."

For the rest of the night let's just say it was full of excitement...we went to dinner at Superior Grill and out to Starz for a little bit of singing. Benny and the Jets anyone?

On Sunday, once everyone was on their way home to Mobile, Atlanta or just the other side of Birmingham, Will and I talked about how great is was to spend time with our best of friends. We always say how much fun it would be to live in the same town together (like college all over again) but then it wouldn't be as special to have these get-togethers. Whether it be to celebrate a friend's engagement or just to catch up after a few months, every time we see our best of friends it is truly special.
